Since the word ‘families’ frequently applies to children and pets, or one or the other at the very least, the sentence ‘families can be hard on a home’ is the understatement of the century.
Fix It Before You Replace It
Whenever possible, if something can be fixed or cleaned rather than replaced, it may be in your best interests; at least in the financial scheme of things. If the chances are favorable that it’s going to be broken again, or filthy beyond recognition, don’t bother replacing it until those ‘problems’ leave the house (where applicable). Now I’ve got nothing against kids, as long as they’re not my own; and I’ve had pets ever since I can remember. I’m also fully aware of the damage both can cause. The best way to save at least your carpet and furniture upholstery is with professional steam cleaners.
Walls And Other Surfaces
The best covering for a wall is an inexpensive but fully covering, washable semi gloss. Hopefully, whatever your children used to create their Picasso on your living room wall will wash off. As far as floor covering is concerned, when there’s not carpeting, inexpensive tile may be the way to go.
Here’s why: If something irreparable happens to a section of a linoleum floor; the entire floor has to be replaced. If on the other hand you use tile squares, you can pop the tile out that is damaged and replace it with an extra.
